The cold weather has got a little too comfortable for our liking – aren't we overdue a hit of heat? Irrespective of our personal preferences, it appears the chilly temps are something of a permanent fixture here in the UK. Head out without a jacket on, and you'll live to regret it.

For when swerving the extra layer is simply not an option, help is at hand. Jackets and dresses can be curiously at odds – whether that's down to conflicting proportions or lengths. But there are a few key combos that hit the spot every single time and we're not here to gatekeep.

From Afghans to puffers, bouclé and shearling, there are ample options to peruse in time for the winter to fully settle in. Faux fur was hot property on the AW25 runways, nodding to a high octane, vintage-inspired glamour that leaned into 1980s dress codes. D&G, Khaite, Jil Sander, Gucci, Etro, Roberto Cavalli, Rabanne, Schiaparelli, Prada and, of course, Fendi, were a modest few to champion the divisive texture for autumn/winter 2025.

Likewise, Chloé and Alberta Ferretti made a case for slouchy, lightweight outerwear while Hermès brought about a renewed interest in timeless leather. Balmain, Jil Sander and Saint Laurent championed the emerging funnel neck trend, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton and Thom Browne made a case for power shoulders and Stella McCartney,  Margiela, Michael Kors, Marine Serre and Givenchy showcased 80s tailoring in all its glory.
