The British royal family owns some of the most beautiful properties in the UK, boasting sumptuous interiors, listed buildings, and sprawling private estates.

However, these candid photographs and videos inside royal homes just might surprise you because of how normal the properties look. From Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, and even Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence, some of our favourite royals have surprised us with their refreshingly relatable looking interiors. Check out the best candid royal home photos below…

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's kitchen at their first home Nottingham Cottage was surprisingly simple and small

Royal fans were thrilled to see rare glimpses inside Nottingham Cottage in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix series, Harry & Meghan. We couldn't quite believe how normal the kitchen looked in the royals' first shared home on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

The room boasted a simple black and white tiled floor, white cupboards with a grey countertop and a random assortment of jars and kitchen items on the countertops.

With dog bowls on display and a basic peddle bin in the corner, you'd never guess the kitchen belonged to royalty

With its 730-acre estate and Grade II-listed building, there is no doubting the grandeur of Gatcombe Park, Princess Anne's main residence. However, The Princess Royal has ensured that her residence is cosy and lowkey.

The one rare occasion when we got a peek inside her sitting room, it was mind-blowingly normal. Princess Anne and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence were captured watching television surrounded by floral and wooden furniture.

The Queen's granddaughter Princess Beatrice used to reside at St James' Palace with her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Despite the residence being an actual palace, the looks we've seen into Beatrice's former living quarters have revealed a very modest space.

When opening up to Giovanna Fletcher for HELLO!'s Back to School digital issue, Beatrice recorded in a surprisingly homely cream room which had been filled with photographs and personal artworks.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank live at Frogmore Cottage, one of the more modest royal residences

Princess Eugenie previously lived with her husband Jack Brooksbank and their baby son, August at Frogmore Cottage.

The property was once officially Harry and Meghan's UK residence before they had to relinquish it, and the pair allowed Eugenie to live there when her first child was born, giving royal enthusiasts several looks inside the private home.

This twee cottage is surprisingly humble and the glimpses we have had inside show off rather normal, pared-back décor – worlds away from the grandeur of Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle.

Sarah Ferguson resides at Royal Lodge in Windsor, choosing to live with her ex-husband Prince Andrew. Sarah's personal kitchen was shown off when her assistant Antonia Marshall previously uploaded a photo of Sarah mopping on her Instagram account. The practical and surprisingly relatable room features wooden flooring, cream walls and wooden cupboards with black marble worktops.
