Titles relinqished

So which titles will Andrew relinquish?

The official process will apply to his titles of Prince, Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh and the style "His Royal Highness". The honors affected are Andrew’s Order of the Garter and Knight Grand Cross of the Victorian Order.

The decision taken by the King will not affect Andrew's daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Emily Nash's thoughts

HELLO!'s Royal Editor Emily Nash has shared her own thoughts on this decision, one that she says the Palace "had to get right this time to restore public confidence".

"The King has made clear that he is calling the shots. He’s condemned his brother’s "serious lapses of judgement," and, crucially, said publicly that his and the Queen’s sympathies have been and remain with the victims and survivors of abuse."

Royal heckles

The royal family is usually greeted with cheers, applause, animated waves, and palpable enthusiasm, but occasionally the Firm is met with heckles from disgruntled members of the public.

This week, it was King Charles' turn as he carried out visits in Staffordshire. "How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein? Have you asked the police to cover up for Andrew? Should the MPs be allowed to debate the royals in the House of Commons?" shouted one man from the crowd.

Charles is not the first or the last, though, and I love this look back at 12 other times the royal family have dealt with uncomfortable situations…

"Beginning of the end"

Sarah Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, have been exes longer than they were ever married yet have remained fixtures in each other’s lives.

However, Phil Dampier, royal author and expert, explains to HELLO! that behind closed doors, Andrew and Sarah's relationship is possibly not as strong as it looks in public.

He tells HELLO!: "I think it just suited them initially with the children, then they just kind of got stuck in a groove and have just been almost can't live with each other, can't live without each other, sort of thing. Just bolted together through their mutual sort of lifestyles."

Find out why leaving Royal Lodge could be the "beginning of the end" for the pair here
