Catherine 'furious' at husband Michael's late diagnosis

Thursday September 2, 2010

Catherine Zeta-Jones has expressed her anger at doctors who failed to spot Michael Douglas' throat cancer.

The Welsh beauty said in an interview that her husband repeatedly complained about ear and throat pain over the summer, but it was only three weeks ago that a walnut-sized tumour was discovered under his tongue.

"It makes me furious they didn’t detect it earlier," Catherine told People magazine.

"He sought every option and nothing was found. I knew something was up. He knew something was up."

Michael, 65, spoke about his battle for the first time on the David Letterman's Late Show this week, where he revealed he was recently told he has stage four throat cancer – an advanced form of the disease.

The Wall Street actor – dad to Dylan, ten, Carys, seven, and Cameron, 31 - has already undergone a week of radiation and chemotherapy and faces another seven weeks of treatment.

His supportive wife said that "the hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired."

Speaking in the same interview as Catherine, Michael added: "Without having to blame anybody, these things sometimes just don't show up.

"I'm treating this as a curable disease. It’s a fight. I'll beat it."
