Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite dies

The In The Name of the Father star Pete Postlethwaite has died at the age of 64.

He was suffering from cancer. The Warrington-born actor was once described by Steven Spielberg as "the best actor in the world".

In the 2004, he was made an OBE New Year’s Honours List.

While he was best known for his Oscar-nominated turn as a man falsely imprisoned on terrorism charges, he was a distinctive presence in many films in the Nineties.

Other successes included Brassed Off, The Usual Suspects, The Shipping News, Inception and Romeo & Juliet.

He continued to work throughout his treatment.

His last screening outing was as the chilling homicidal character The Florist in Ben Affleck's heist movie The Town.
