Salma Hayek to receive France's top honour

Tuesday January 3, 2012

Salma Hayek appears on France's official New Year's honours list, People reports.

The Mexican actress will receive a Legion d'Honneur from President Nicolas Sarkozy.

She'll be honoured as a Chevalier or knight.

The Puss in Boots star is married to French fashion billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, with whom she has a four-year-old daughter Valentina.

Salma receive her rosette, indicating her rank, in a special ceremony to be held at the Elysees Palace some time within the next two months.

The Legion of Honour was founded by Napoleon in 1802 as a merit awarded to military personnel and civilians for service to France.

It is not exclusively reserved for the French and is often awarded to figures of international standing.

Past recipients include Jerry Lewis, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford and Robert De Niro.
