Gordon Brown reveals his love of Brussels sprouts

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has revealed himself as an unlikely champion of Brussels sprouts after admitting that – unlike a lot of children – he had no problems eating them as a youngster.

He makes the confession in a contribution to a new charity cook book, in which he fondly remembers his family home in Fife. "Mum would always have a huge pot of soup sitting on the stove," he writes.

"As one of three boys, we had great appetites, so she was busy making big stews or Sunday roasts. I never had any problems eating my greens and my favourites were probably sprouts."

The British leader also said that due to his busy work schedule, he often relies on microwave dinners when he's alone at Number 10.

"The microwave is a wonderful invention for when I'm on my own or working late," he says.
