Actor Ryan O'Neal's son Redmond has been jailed in Southern California following a drugs arrest.

Santa Monica police said Redmond O'Neal was pulled over on Tuesday after he failed to stop at a red light. A search of his car uncovered heroin.

Redmond, 26, who is on probation over a previous drug case, was not given bail.

Redmond, the son of Ryan and the late Farrah Fawcett, has a history of substance abuse. 

Meanwhile, Ryan's other son Griffin, 46, was taken to hospital after a collision in San Diego County.

A police officer said Griffin was behind the wheel of a car on Tuesday afternoon when he collided with another vehicle.

Sgt Jennings said Griffin complained of pain and was taken to a medical centre. He was later discharged.
