Mutya Buena applies for ownership of Sugababes name
Former Sugababe Mutya Buena has made a formal request to own the band's name.
The star, who left the group in 2005 to pursue a solo career, has applied to the European Trademarks Authority for permission, her legal firm has revealed.
Speaking at a recent album launch, current Sugababe Heidi Grange said she was confident their name would stick.
"Our record company owns the name so there's no conversations about who owns the name," the singer told the BBC on Wednesday.
"I signed to Universal records eight-and-a-half years ago with Mutya and Keisha, so we've still got the name."
If Mutya's application - which has been registered, but not approved - is successful, it means that she may own the rights to use the Sugababes name on CDs, DVDs and books.
