Queen resplendent in royal regalia for OBE ceremony

Thursday March 8, 2012

The Queen cuts a magnificent figure as she attends a service of thanksgiving for the Order of the British Empire.

Amid a 2,000-strong congregation filled with holders of the honour, which recognises public service, all eyes were on the monarch in full state dress.

Her red robe was covered by the sovereign's mantle of the Order of the British Empire.

Completing the regal look was the Girls of Great Britain tiara, inherited from her grandmother Queen Mary.

The only slight hitch to the proceedings was a spot of rain.

Buckingham Palace said that forced a change to the programme.

The Queen entered via the dean's door on the south side rather than the famous but more exposed West Door.

"She had this long dress and she was not dressed really for gale force winds and torrential rain,"  said a spokeswoman.
