Prince Charles gives rare glimpse inside the Royal Train

Prince Charles gives rare glimpse inside the Royal Train

Introduced over 150 years ago by Queen Victoria, the Royal Train has always been shrouded in a certain element of mystery.

Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are the only people allowed to use the locomotive, generating a sense of intimacy within the carriage walls.

This week, however, Prince Charles has allowed cameras onboard, giving the public a chance to see the train for the first time since it was created.

Surprisingly, given the Prince's more traditional taste, the 12-seater dining car consists of rather modern, functional furniture.

Family clearly remains important, as pictures of the late Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother adorn the walls.

The Prince is embarking on a week-long trip aboard the train, across England, Scotland and Wales, to promote "green" living.
