Picture perfect Kate goes solo at gallery outing

It was her first official solo engagement without Prince William by her side, but if the Duchess of Cambridge was nervous, she didn't show it.

Visiting the National Portrait Gallery in her capacity as patron, the new royal wowed in towering Jimmy Choos, a coat dress by Jesire and accessorised with an Asprey pendant.

Kate was introduced to Sue Tilley, or 'Big Sue', who was the subject of Freud's famous nude Benefits Supervisor Sleeping, which sold for £17 million.

And Mary McCartney, who is the daughter of Beatle Paul and one of the trustees of the gallery, was impressed by her introduction to her fellow brunette.

"She took an interest in all of us. She said she'd been on my website and seen my pictures – which made me blush" she revealed.

"It's so exciting she's become involved. She's refreshing"
