Zara Phillips has collaborated with Land Rover and WISE to launch a new scholarship programme for young women looking to pursue a career in engineering.
The Range Rover Evoque WISE Scholarship will offer a £9,000 bursary to three lucky female apprentices. The budding engineers will also receive mentoring support from WISE and Land Rover’s engineers.
The British royal announced the launch of the scheme at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, saying that her own Grandmother’s time as an engineer in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) are an inspiration to other women to choose the profession.
Currently just 13% of the engineering workforce are women, a statistic that Land Rover is hoping to change with the new initiative.
Zara said: "The UK has a rich heritage of women in engineering
"I'm delighted to be supporting the Range Rover Evoque WISE Scholarship which provides young women with the opportunity to progress their career. There are equal opportunities for both men and women to succeed in engineering and now is an exciting time to get involved."
