Hugh Jackman gets go-ahead to take Wolverine to Mexico

Hugh Jackman has been given the green light to travel to Mexico to attend the premiere of his latest film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, later on this month.

And the 40-year-old is seizing the opportunity to bring some light relief to the Mexican people. Writing on his page on micro blogging site Twitter Hugh says: "I will bring Wolverine to Mexico City on May 26 to provide a moment of fun, escapism and a treat for some of the loyal fans of the comic."

The dad-of-two's appearance had to be cancelled as a result of the outbreak of swine flu. But on Thursday cinemas and other venues in Mexico were able to reopen after having their doors shut for five days.

Wolverine – the latest instalment in the X-Men franchise – currently tops the UK and US box offices. It tells the story of how Hugh's mutant superhero character came to emerge
