'The Voice' given exciting new makeover

Tuesday February 12, 2013

The Voice has been given an exciting new twist which will allow coaches to steal acts from each other.

The BBC singing talent show - starring Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, Danny O'Donoghue and Will.i.am as coaches - has been given a makeover after viewers branded the final live rounds boring and ratings fell after the blind auditions.

Bosses have now announced they are introducing a new twist to the battle rounds - in which two singers from the same team compete singing the same song simultaneously and the weakest is eliminated - and now rival coaches can choose to save an act after they have been rejected by their own mentor.

They are also extending the blind auditions - where the judges sit with their backs to the singers and press a button to spin round if they like the sound of a voice - with judges picking 12 acts in total, up from last year's 10.

When the teams get down to seven there will be a knockout round, where acts choose a "killer song" to try and knock out the other six acts and the audience vote for their favourite.

The new format will see the live shows cut down to just three weeks.
