The Queen takes up annual residence in Scotland

Looking effortlessly elegant in a purple jacket and matching hat, the Queen was photographed with the Royal Guard outside the gates to her private holiday home in Scotland this week.

The monarch looked suitably impressed as she inspected the Royal Guard outside Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire on Monday.

The guard was formed by B Company, 1st Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Officer Commanding of B Company, Major Graeme Wearmouth, escorted the Queen as she took up her annual residence at the castle.
