Belgium's King Albert, accompanied by the country's prime minister Yves Leterme, on Monday visited the scene of the Belgian train crash which claimed 18 lives.
The visibly moved sovereign talked to the head of emergency services while he viewed the wreckage in Halle, south-west of Brussels.
Albert cut short his family holiday in the south of France after hearing about the tragedy – a collision between two commuter trains in which dozens of people were injured.
