Kate Middleton's parents said on Tuesday afternoon that they are "absolutely delighted" about their daughter's engagement to Prince William.
Appearing outside the family home in Berkshire - where the police were on guard – her father Michael with his wife Carole said their long courtship had had its advantages.
"As you know Catherine and Prince William have been going out together for quite a number of years.
"It's great for us because we have got to know him extremely well.
"We think he is wonderful. They make a lovely couple, they're great to be with and we've had a lot of laughs together.
"We wish them every happiness for the future".
