Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson has a special treat for her daughter Gaia before she starts secondary school – a trip around the world.

The Nanny Mcphee star told CNN she was still considering the itinerary – but said India was a possible destination.

"(She) finishes her little [primary] school next year, but I’m going to give her a break from education and show her the world a bit and take a break myself.

"I just thought it was really good timing between those two schools to have a bit of a break."

Emma and her husband Greg Wise will have to satisfy the authorities that their little girl is keeping up with her education during the gap – either with a tutor or by presenting their own lesson plans.
