Prince Harry to 'return to Afghanistan'

Thursday June 16, 2011

Prince Harry could return to duty in Afghanistan next year.

The 26-year-old has reportedly been cleared to go back to the war zone as an Apache helicopter pilot.

Harry secretly spent ten weeks in the Helmand province in 2007/2008, but his deployment had to be cut short after a media blackout was broken.

A spokesman for Clarence House has said that when the prince's final Apache training comes to an end in 2012, he would be ready for deployment "wherever the Army chooses to send him."

An MOD spokesman would not comment, although it is being reported that defence chiefs and the Queen have given Harry the go-ahead to return to Afghanistan.

Harry – told by his instructors he has a "natural flair" for flying - gained his wings earlier this year.

He is currently undergoing an eight-month 'conversion-to-role' course to make him combat-ready.

Last year, he said he had a "real determination" to go back to Afghanistan, adding that his "heart was in the Army."
