Transformers sequel takes record $60.6m on first day in the US

Friday June 26, 2009

It has gigantic robots, big explosions, and two of Hollywood's hottest stars - Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is a massive movie. And the sequel clearly has the pulling power with fans, after it took a whopping $60.6 million on its first day at the box office in the US.

No other film has earned that much money in the middle of the week, and only The Dark Knight ever banked so much in a single day, when it grossed $67.2 million on it's opening last summer.

The film, which depicts an epic battle between good and evil robots on planet earth, has overtaken previous record-holder for release on a Wednesday, Harry Potter And The Order Of Phoenix.

And if its initial momentum continues, the film - which stars Indiana Jones hunk Shia LaBoeuf and Hollywood hottie Megan Fox - could exceed The Dark Knight's $203.8 million record for total takings.
