Former That's Life presenter Esther Rantzen has announced plans to run for Parliament at the next general election in 2010.
Esther plans to stand as an independent candidate as MP for Luton South - the county constituency of Labour politician Margaret Moran. She has announced she will be standing down in the wake of revelations about her expenses claims.
Confirming her plans this Tuesday, Esther revealed she had long been "fascinated by politics" although it was a "very different world" from broadcasting
"I'm doing it because it's important and it may just be that the British public still have appetite for change and a cold breath of fresh air," says the 60-year-old broadcaster.
"For me it's a bit like going to the moon, a small step for a woman, a big step for independents."
