Double trouble: 'X Factor's Katie and Wagner go home

It’s been a season of shocks and surprises on this year’s X Factor  - and audiences have been glued to their seats.

This weekend’s show did not disappoint when - in a double eviction - two of the most controversial contestants were sent home.

Katie Waissel received the lowest number of public votes but said she was very grateful for getting as far as she did.

Wagner, who the judges never warmed to, went on to a sing-off in which he performed the Nat King Cole song Unforgettable.

Despite an internet campaign to save the 54-year-old Brazilian, the judges voted him off.

Simon Cowell had feared that such campaigns could “derail” the show.

During the sing-off, Irish chanteuse Mary Byrne was saved and will remain to sing another day.
