Italian designer Giorgio Armani is giving English football a whole new look, unveiling the national squad's new off-field wardrobe for the European championships in Portugal.

Armani first signed on to dress David Beckham and the boys in 2003, putting together elegant dark blue suits for the team. This year's formal outfits depart from the traditional navy, and are instead in a grey light wool crepe, with jackets lined in camel gold satin.

Casual gear is similarly stylish, mixing modernity with tradition. A navy pinstriped double breasted jacket – Armani's cardigan-like twist on the standard blazer – paired with loose-fitting trousers and a t-shirt, rather than the expected button-down look. Accessories are ultra-trendy, including silver aviator-style shades and a metal-strapped watch with black Roman numerals on a white face.

"The coach, Sven-Goran Eriksson, encourages (players) to show their own flair," said Armani. "As they head to Portugal this summer, I wanted to create looks that resonate with the youthful, spirited modernity of the squad."
