Dior designer John Galliano paid tribute to the French fashionista by enlisting the help of style veterans Stella Tennant, Eva Herzigova, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista – as well as new faces such as Lily Cole – for his haute couture shows in Paris.
Front row guest such as Christina Aguilera, Charlize Theron and Drew Barrymore watched the parade of 43 exquisite handmade gowns, inspired by icons from Princess Margaret to Hollywood film star Ginger Rogers. The sculpted and corseted creations, featuring elaborate beading, embroidery and appliqué detailing, were based on Dior's "New Look", launched in 1947.
Other labels which have taken centre stage in Paris this week so far include Chanel, Valentino and Giorgio Armani, whose elegant show drew the likes of Tina Turner and Matt Dillon.
Paris Haute Couture fashion week closes on Friday with shows from Jean-Paul Gaultier and celebrity favourite Elie Saab. |
