"In 1969, Mick Jagger married Bianca, and she wore a trouser suit. Before then, trousers had been leisure wear for women, but not smart, not something you could wear in church or at work" - Rosemary Harden of the Museum of Costume in Bath
With many brides choosing to wed later in life or opting for more casual ceremonies, trousers are becoming a more common wedding day choice. Bianca Jagger helped set the precedent when she donned a white trouser suit for her wedding to Rolling Stone Mick in St Tropez in 1971. A well-tailored trouser suit in muted tones – like those seen in Valentino’s spring 2002 haute couture collection – works well for the occasion. Linen for warm weather, wool for cooler climates. Another option is to go with a feminine two-piece outfit in a flowing fabric, such as the Peter Aedo’s silk wide-leg trousers, paired with an off the shoulder top. And with trousers, the accessories truly make the difference – choose simple jewellery such as pearl earrings for a low-key look, or jazz up the outfit with gloves or a wrap in a complementary tone.
