The 2004 bride is more feminine than ever, with trends from the ready-to-wear catwalks featuring strongly for the wedding season.
Ribbons, a pret-a-porter must for labels from YSL to Carolina Herrera, also emerged as a winning detail for spring bridal. Girlish bows in silk and satin were seen adorning everything from empire waists to shoulders, with wide sashes another trendy choice.
Standout details such as feathers and ruffles appear on many of new creations, while satin – a current favourite for evening wear – is an increasingly popular alternative to 2003's material of choice, lace. Also among the top looks are ballet-inspired designs, creations, including gowns with three-quarter length tulle skirts that could be straight off the stage.
While traditional white is always an option, colour is a surprise player for the coming season, with designers adding pale blues, pinks, and purples to a number of glamorous creations. Bolder brides might opt for brighter shades – red lace bodices, pink trains and floral embroidery are among the options.
