She may have topped both the movie and pop charts, sung for the Queen and, thanks for a life-long drive to be famous, become one of Hollywood’s top earners. But when it comes to running off a song, sultry superstar Jennifer Lopez is refreshingly unambitious. “I always want to make music that people want to clean the house to,” says the 31-year-old singer of her latest album J. Lo. “It makes it a little less bad to have to clean. Because those are always my favourite kind of albums. I know it sounds kind of funny, but it actually has a lot of value to it.”
Taking the pain out of housework is all very noble, yet somehow, one cant imagine the voluptuous “J. Lo” whistling one of her catchy hits and mopping the halls of the sprawling $5 million Hollywood Hills property that she and her new husband Chris Judd are set to call home.
After all, this is the superstar whose alleged prima donna antics and diva demands have studio crews frantically scouring cities in search of Diptyque candles to festoon her white dressing rooms, where the star supposedly sips room-temperature Evian spring water, reclined on a white couch. Nothing could be further from the truth, says Jennifer, wearying of the claims. “People enjoy painting a picture of a diva,” she said recently. “That is not me.”
Last week on her visit to Britain she reiterated her denial. “It makes me angry. I’m portrayed as spoilt and obnoxious and demanding. I’m not like that, I’m the opposite. That’s not my style. If you really want to check it out, ask the people I work with. I think you’ll get a really different picture.”
