Crown Prince Naruhito proved he has many strings to his bow as he took part in an orchestral concert on Monday. An accomplished musician, the Japanese royal was taking part in a musical performance by the alumni of his former university.
The 46-year-old heir to the Chrysanthemum throne played the viola at the Tokyo concert, donning, like his fellow musicians, a white dinner jacket and black bow-tie. Naruhito has apparently kept up his practice at the Togu Palace's music room, where he is accompanied by his mother, Empress Michiko, on the piano.
Naruhito has strong ties to Gakushuin University where he enrolled in 1982 to study History. He later embarked upon a Masters degree in Japanese Medieval History there, graduating in 1988.
