Black-ish fans all saying same thing after Michelle Obama joins Tracee Ellis Ross in season 8 premiere

The ABC sitcom has begun airing its final season

The premiere of Black-ish's final season kicked off on Tuesday evening with an extra special guest - Michelle Obama!

The former First Lady appeared in the season eight premiere episode as a rather unexpected but welcome guest at a fundraising event that Tracee Ellis Ross's Bow and her husband Dre, played by Anthony Anderson, attend. Later in the episode, it turns out that the three of them hit it off so well that she has accepted an invitation to join the Johnsons at their house for dinner.

Although her appearance had been teased for a while, fans of the show were still left in total awe after Michelle popped up on screen. Taking to Twitter, one said: "Michelle Obama on Black-ish feels so right! #black-ish."

"Michelle Obama is the biggest guest star in TV History. Black-ish started their new season like that?" another added, followed by a mindblown emoji. A third added: "FLOTUS is a natural on the screen."

As for how the cameo came about, during a recent interview with WSJ. Magazine, lead actress Tracee revealed that she had reached out to the Becoming author last year on behalf of the show's creators.

She explained: "It was wonderful. She and I are friends. It was a phone call I made. We got to do really important subject matter that's mixed in with fun, so it's receivable."

"We had a ball. It felt really fun to show off what a well-oiled machine our show is," she continued. "It felt really fun to welcome someone so special who's been so important in our world, in our culture, in the kinds of stories we told on Black-ish."

Michelle, who has also appeared on the likes of Parks and Recreation and NCIS over the years, took to Twitter herself after the episode aired to reveal how much she enjoyed being part of the ABC sitcom.

"It was fun being on set with @TraceeEllisRoss and the cast and crew of @BlackishABC!" she wrote alongside a snap of her and Tracee on set.
