Tess Daly and Vernon Kay dote on their two daughters, Phoebe, 18, and Amber, 13, but they will face a bittersweet moment with their eldest later in the year.

Phoebe turned 18 last year, and the teenager will be heading off to university later in the year, where she is set to study drama. Although Tess will no doubt be supporting her daughter, the moment will also be emotional for her as she becomes a half-empty nester.

During an appearance on Loose Women on Friday, where she promoted her new book, Tess quipped: "I'm in denial, she's not ever leaving."

She then let out a fake wail as anchor Kaye Adams asked about how Vernon might be feeling about the event, before Tess lightly teased him about his hobbies.

In an interview with the Daily Mail last year, Vernon opened up about his eldest flying the nest, as he explained: "It's weird that Phoebe will soon be leaving home because it only feels like two minutes they were both in nappies.

"It's such a cliché and you don't take it on board at the time but both our parents told us to enjoy every minute and take lots of photographs because tomorrow they'll be at university and leaving home."

However, the father-of-two will no doubt feel a bit of pride for his daughter, as he also told the publication that both he and Tess wanted their daughters to be "independent" as they grew up.

The married couple don't often share photos or reference their teenage children, but earlier in the year, Tess opened up about being a mum to her girls.

"In my mind, I'm a mum, and that's what I've been for 18 years, and I manage to get out to work occasionally. But being a mum is so all-consuming," the presenter told Fabulous Magazine.

"For me, it's my most important role – it's what I am first and foremost. The first thing I think about in the morning and the last thing at night is my kids' wellbeing."

The Strictly Come Dancing presenter also shared how she felt that social media created a lot of "pressure" on young women and girls, meaning that they can't have "that carefree spirit".
