The new season is officially here – which means there is no time to waste. They don't call it spring cleaning for nothing, the wardrobe refresh starts right now and that includes your jewellery collection. An overhaul feels long overdue, and this season we are totally spoilt for choice when it comes to chunkier, more heavy-duty pieces.
As we emerge from winter, we're all about levity. Shedding thick knits in favour of lighter airy sheers and floaty meshes is our sartorial focus right now, and that ought to be accented by our jewellery choices. Maximalists – your time has come. Lightweight fabrics of the moment should be counteracted with chunky cuffs, bold chains and larger-than-life earrings in order to provide a sense of balance.
SS23 trends dictate that the pearl-chain fusion is one of the hottest styles right now. Oversized, rope-like chrome chokers were threaded with strings of pearls at Simone Rocha, and similar pieces stole the stage at Nensi Dojaka.
High drama cuffs ruled at Giorgio Armani Privé and we fell hard for its playful harlequin-inspired geometrics whereas Balmain championed styles that resembled nautical instruments.
Sacai's thick loop bracelet-clutch hybrids caught our attention, whereas at Halpern the vibe was all about the earrings – think bold, 1960s-esque acetate rectangular shapes and XXL diamanté dangly designs.
Upping the chunky levels within your jewellery box is no mean feat considering the high calibre of designs available right now. As we edge closer to summer, Andrea Fohrman's one-of-a-kind stone signet ring and Oscar de la Renta's acetate hoops are at the very top of our wish list, but both Mejuri and Hey Harper are well worth a browse if you're looking to update your accessory game at a more affordable price point.
