James Norton is back on our screens with historical drama, King & Conqueror. The BBC drama will chart the relationship between Harold, the last Anglo-Saxon King of England, and William the Conqueror before their meeting on the battlefield at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. In real life, the former King of England lived in Wessex, which today would have comprised the counties of Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset and Somerset. Meanwhile, James currently lives in Peckham in the south east of London, and the 40-year-old actor grew up in Yorkshire after being born in Lambeth.

Current home

Although James prefers to live a private life, the Playing Nice star has offered fans glimpses inside his private property on social media. The actor's Instagram feed often features his South-East London neighbourhood and there have been a few snaps which appear to have been taken inside his home. In one photo, a black-and-white photo, the star could be seen standing in front of a wall of photo frames. The stylish gallery wall features a range of different frames in various sizes, featuring paintings and photographs.

Another picture was of his then partner Imogen, which showed more of their living quarters. The space appears to be their kitchen area with sash windows, which has been decorated with plenty of plants and there was a collection of alcohol bottles on the side. James has previously shown off how his living space is his base of operations, using a paddling pool in his garden as the perfect ice bath during a heatwave.

The actor certainly has quite the neighbourhood for himself, as according to Rightmove, properties in Peckham had an overall average price of £605,675 last year, indicating it's a popular place to live in the capital. The London Daily News has named the area an "attractive area" for those trying to get on the property ladder for the first time, praising the area as "a unique blend of affordability, lifestyle, and investment potential".

James' childhood home

During his Happy Valley days, James would have felt right at home with the filming location, as he grew up in the market town of Malton, in the north of Yorkshire. The actor left his home behind when he went to study, as he was educated in North Yorkshire and Cambridge before moving to London to enrol in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Speaking to the BBC about his love of the county in a 2024 interview, he shared: "My family are still there, my parents and my sister live near the York and Malton area, so I'm often up. I'm a Yorkshireman - I don't sound like it anymore - but I'm a Yorkshireman through and through, so to come home is always a pleasure."

Although he left Yorkshire behind for his studies, it still had an impact on his career, as he revealed he did work experience at the nearby Steven Joseph Theatre in Scarborough. He added: "They're actually the only producing theatre in North Yorkshire, which is a sad reflection on the state of regional theatre. But, it is an amazing building, with amazing heritage and history. I love it."
