The Queen has travelled – in miles – the equivalent of 42 times around the world

The seventies and eighties were prominent jet setting decades for the Queen.

In her first 12 months on the throne, the Queen travelled more than 40,000 miles visiting 12 countries during her six-month Commonwealth tour.

The monarch has visited 120 out of the world's 196 countries.

Her Majesty visited six countries in two months as part of her 1979 Middle East tour.

The royal couple usually spend two months of the summer at Balmoral in Scotland.
