Just over two months after her divorce from Keith Urban was finalized, Nicole Kidman is speaking out about the ordeal for the first time.
Nicole and Keith, both 58, met in 2005 and tied the knot a year later, welcoming daughters Sunday Rose, now 17, and Faith Margaret, now 15, while together.
In September of 2025, news suddenly broke that the couple had separated after nearly 20 years of marriage, with their divorce finalized just a few months later in January of 2026, with the agreements of custody and property distribution sorted beforehand.
Speaking out
Now, in a new conversation with Variety, the Scarpetta actress is looking back on the situation and sharing her first comments on the matter, first noting that 2025 was a difficult year for her. "I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell."
She then spoke directly about her split from Keith when asked if she was doing alright post-separation. "I am, because I'm always going to be moving toward what's good," she said, noting that her family was and always will remain her number one priority.
"What I'm grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward," Nicole continued. "That's that. Everything else I don't discuss out of respect. I'm staying in a place of, 'We are a family,' and that's what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women."
"Continue to love"
It was specified in the terms of their divorce that neither party would speak poorly of each other as well, with no one person paying the other spousal or child support, and all matters pertaining to their children would be decided upon jointly.
"They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent," their marital dissolution agreement read. "They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families."
Home base and beyond
In her interview, Nicole also affirmed that despite a shift in their personal situation, she will remain in Nashville for the foreseeable future because her daughters have also built their lives there. "We have our life here. I'm part of the city and community for 20 years. It's my home."
Although it already looks like she has big things on the horizon beyond just her several projects, starting with her gorgeous visit to Antarctica with her daughters. "We're going to head to the Galápagos and then hike Machu Picchu," the Moulin Rouge! star gushed.
"I took my sister, nieces and nephews and loads of friends on a cruise. We met so many good people that we didn't know. We saw penguins and sea lions."
She added: "I've worked so hard since I was 14 on this exploration of the human spirit, and I've loved being global. I've gone to the Algerian border with Werner Herzog to ride camels. My kids have gotten to live in Morocco and see so much more of what the world is. The different tastes, smells, languages, ideas. All three of us have done seven continents."
