The Queen's granddaughter Zara Phillips was in deep water at an equestrian event this week, stripping off her boots and socks to wade in one of the course's obstacles.

With her jeans rolled up, and carrying her footwear in one hand, she paddled in the lake at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. The down-to-earth royal was wearing a smile as she got her feet wet, although she didn't look quite as enthusiastic as her dog, who was clearly relishing the summer dip.

Princess Anne's 24-year-old daughter wasn't just out for a playful splash, however. The keen equestrian was testing the waters, literally, in the run-up to the European Eventing Championships.
