Today's Al Roker and his wife, ABC journalist Deborah Roberts, have a loving relationship that's led to many fans dubbing them a journalistic power couple.

They may work at different networks, for rival morning shows, but Al and Deborah have been married for almost 30 years. Together they share two kids, Nicholas and Leila, and their relationship shows no sign of faltering.

Here's the timeline of how they got together.

1990: Al and Deborah meet at Today

When Deborah joined NBC's Today as a correspondent, it's safe to say that the weatherman made an impression.

"Al was so sweet," she told PEOPLE in 1999. "He showed me pictures of his daughter and talked about his family."

1992: The couple start dating

"Not long after I got to know this guy, I was on my way to cover the Barcelona Olympics. I would be gone for a month and he nicely consented to swing by my apartment to gather mail and water my plants," she wrote.

"That was the total of my responsibility then. When I returned , he had stocked my empty fridge, and left fresh flowers. No surprise…not long after, I finally accepted a date.

January 1994: Engaged

Al proposed to the journalist on January 1, 1994. It was a long time coming, according to the weatercaster, who admitted: "Deborah was getting a little annoyed that it hadn't happened over the holidays. We had a chat, 'So when will this happen?' And I said, 'Before Groundhog Day.'"

Al and Deborah enjoyed a day out at the polo

He decided to propose to her during a business trip to Arizona, as they were looking over the Grand Canyon. He thought it was a "great place", joking to PEOPLE: "On the rim of the Grand Canyon. And if she says, 'No,' one of us isn't coming back."

September 1995: Married

The couple got married in Manhattan's St. Thomas Episcopal Church, surrounded by family and friends including Barbara Walters and Katie Couric.

Deborah remembered marrying Al

1995: Deborah moves to ABC

After five years working alongside Al on Today, Deborah made the move over to ABC, where she would later become an anchor on Good Morning America.

November 1998: The couple welcome their daughter

Al and Deborah welcomed Leila Ruth on November 17, 1998. Leila was the first child for Deborah, but and the second for Roker, who shares daughter Courtney from his previous marriage to Alice Bell.

July 2002: Son Nicholas Albert is born

The couple later welcomed their son Nicholas on July 18, 2002, who was later diagnosed with autism. He said about the diagnosis: "As a lot of parents who have kids who have special needs [know], they can try your patience. Not that they mean to, or anything like that. I look at him and all that he does and I want to be a better person."

September 2020: Deborah and Al celebrate 25 years

Al and Deborah commemorated their long union in September 2020. Al celebrated the moment with a rare video of their wedding on Instagram, which he captioned: "A #happy25thanniversary to @debrobertsabc who helps me a better #father #brother #person and challenges me to do better each and every day. #thankyou and #iloveyou".

November 2022: Al is hospitalized

After the Today host was hospitalized with blood clots in his hearts, legs and lungs, Deborah was by his side to take care of him. She later said of his health crisis: "I think a lot of people don't realize that — and I never realized that — that being a caregiver is really taxing, exhausting, frightening, all of those things. 

"I never went through anything like this. And I hope I'll never do it again," she told Entertainment Tonight. "It's tough. I'm still kind of, I think, recuperating. I'm still kind of tired. I'm still mentally exhausted, but you know what, I'm grateful and just trying to just bask in the moment and just be happy that he's well."
