Carol Vorderman sparked a mass fan reaction with her new appearance in her latest Instagram selfie. The 61-year-old star revealed she had tried a filter on Instagram for the first time – and was "genuinely shocked" by the result.

Sharing a close-up photograph of her digitally altered face, Carol admitted she was in a state of "befuddlement". The star's entire face had been slimmed down and her skin looked overly smooth in the image, rendering her almost unrecognisable. She captioned the photo: "Omg I'm shocked... this is the first time I've ever tried a filter... I had no idea it changes you like this... In a bit of a state of befuddlement. I'm so 'insta naiive' tbh #filter."

Carol's fans were just as shocked by the snap as she was, and took to the comments section in their droves to tell her she didn't need to use filters.

One follower said: "No filter needed. You're naturally beautiful Carol" while another shared: "You honestly don’t need a filter."
Carol couldn't get over the difference the filter made and the fact so many young celebrities use them on their photos, branding the trend "complete nonsense".

Responding to a comment saying she didn't need the filter, Carol wrote: "It's horrible what it does. I took the particular filter from a post today by someone young and famous... I genuinely had no idea…"
Replying to yet another comment, Carol said: "So weird isn't it? Genuinely shocked... I just [saw] someone young and famous who I like following using this filter so I thought... oh I'll try it... bloody hell... I had no idea it's all such complete nonsense… wow."
