Countryfile presenter Anita Rani is our kind of girl – not only did she embrace the sequins and foxtrot her way to the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing, but she’s admitted she eschews expensive skincare and luxury facials and prefers to rely on a homemade recipe to keep her skin glowing instead.

Anita, 40, told The Daily Mail that she whips up her own facemask out of yoghurt, honey and turmeric before a big photo shoot. “I’m really into beauty, but my mum is really into natural beauty. I make homemade face packs with yogurt and loads of stuff – turmeric, but only a tiny bit as you don’t want to go too yellow. Honey’s really good for the skin, cucumber for the eyes. “My mum is super girly and she’ll always phone me and say have you put a facepack on, you’ve got a photoshoot tomorrow.” She warned those eager to try her skin smoothing recipe that less is more when it comes to the amount of turmeric you use. She took to Instagram to say: “I said a TINY amount of turmeric. If you’ve never used turmeric for anything other than cooking best stay clear!” As for the products she does buy, Anita said she prefers to stick to the more affordable skincare brands. “I end up using the really cheap stuff – a lot of Nivea.”
Anita’s not the only celebrity who loves a DIY beauty product. Priyanka Chopra swears by Ubtan, a body scrub she makes using gram flour, yoghurt, lemon, milk, sandalwood powder and turmeric. The actress, who attended the royal wedding back in May, credits the scrub for fixing most of her skin concerns while Mariah Carey likes to bathe in milk – which she often uses as a beauty treatment too.
