Thank you to Cat Deeley for schooling me in what to wear during the transitional weather we seem to be experiencing. One minute the weather lulls you into thinking we're still in summer but ultimately, we are not.
And knowing how to dress for this weather is tricky - but Cat's latest This Morning outfit is a good starting point.
- Cat Deeley hosts This Morning on weekdays with Ben Shepherd.
- The Birmingham born TV presenter wore a classic denim shirt on Thursday's show.
- We tracked her blouse down to Boden, and it's "selling like hotcakes."
Since it's not quite big jumper weather, nor is it warm enough for a T-shirt, I'm taking a leaf out of Cat's book and embracing my shirts, particularly a denim shirt, which she wore on This Morning. A denim shirt is by all accounts, a wardrobe staple, forever in fashion and forever useful. And right now, it really is earning its keep.
Thicker than a cotton or poplin shirt, a denim shirt provides the warmth we need right now without making us overheat for the moments the sun does make an appearance.
Cat's denim shirt has been identified as the Boden 'Sky' Denim Shirt, a lightweight shirt in a vintage blue wash, with Princess seams that hug the body and gathered sleeves to soften the silhouette.
Priced at £89, the Boden shirt is made from 100% cotton making it super breathable and comfortable too.
The 48-year-old embraced the double denim trend by wearing her denim shirt tucked into a pair of Donna Ida 'Minnie' flared jeans, her go-to shape with a high waist and wide leg - she's previously worn the same tummy-flattering style in classic blue.
Cat's jeans are hard to track down, but the Mint Velvet flares are a close match and on sale for under £80. The flares are made from a stretch material, helping them to be a comfortable fit and less rigid.
Cat's styling of her denim shirt is an easy way to try out double denim. It isn't a trend for everyone, but by swapping blue jeans for black, it takes a step away from blue on blue denim.
The shirt is a classic wardrobe item, and as such denim shirts have been embraced by royalty - Princess Kate and Meghan Markle both own a chambray denim shirt - showing their timeless appeal and versatility.
They're a great way to combine the crisp, smart look of a shirt with a more casual denim aesthetic. If you don't want to wear yours with jeans, try with black wide leg trousers, as a cover-up over a T-shirt or summer dress or tucked into a midi skirt. Alternatively, save for winter and wear under a sweater, leaving the denim collar to pop over the neckline.
