As M&S’s Chief Compliments Officer, Gillian Anderson is often spotted wearing the high street brand. And we sat up and took notice when the actor was seen wearing a new autumnal dress from Marks & Spencer - that costs just £45.
Gillian, 58, appeared on the high street brand's Instagram page to relay how her time as CCO has been. With her "love that" catchphrase sneaking out at every moment, it was her top to toe M&S look that had others repeating her catchphrase back to her.
Wearing the M&S Polka Dot Flocked Midi Slip Dress, £45, the X-Files star showed off her sartorial skills by draping a black blazer over her shoulders, and a pair of simple black heels.
- Gillian Anderson's latest role is as the M&S Chief Compliments Officer
- The 58-year-old wore the trending M&S Polka Dot Flocked Midi Slip Dress, £45 / $88.99.
- The dress is also available in a midi skirt at M&S.
The black blazer and footwear pulled the outfit together perfect, drawing in on the dresses black polka dots, framed by a chocolate brown silky background.
The dress is a fantastic shape too, with wide straps (very bra-friendly) and a scoop neckline. The dress itself has a regular fit, which skims the body without being too tight or fitted. It finishes with a midi hem, and is made from a delicate polyester. And yes, it's machine washable, despite its fragile nature.
I love this dress for a day to night outfit. The blazer keeps things office appropriate, smart and modest, while the dress itself is slinky enough to be worn in the evening. See, it's Most Valuable Player (MVP) status is worthy.
How to style Gillian's dress
I'd personally layer the dress under a black simple crew neck sweater or cardigan, or wear with knee high boots. You could even layer a lightweight merino roll neck underneath the dress, or a crisp white shirt.
Gillian's M&S dress proves once again that polka dots are a staple. Most of the time they're thought of a spring/summer pattern but with this darker, moody palette, it's straight up autumnal.
The dress is available in sizes 6 - 24, along with three varying lengths; petite, regular and tall. As it's brand new on the website, shoppers have yet to review the dress but I'd suggest taking your usual size or sizing up if you'd prefer it to be on the looser side.
Gillian's exact blazer hasn't been listed, but M&S suggests pairing the dress with it's own-brand Peak Lapel Blazer, a smart tailored double-breasted jacket that has more of a tuxedo aesthetic than your average blazer.
I personally love this blazer, as it's an easy win for polishing any outfit, even jeans and a tee. Worn with a dress, like Gillian's, it gives an effortlessly smart finish to a relaxed silhouette.
