A host of British and German celebrities and politicians were among the 152 guests at the banquet, including German supermodel Claudia Schiffer and her husband Sir Matthew Vaughn, Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse, who lives in Germany, former Everton midfielder Thomas Hitzlesperger, award-winning German composer Hans Zimmer and children's book illustrator Axel Scheffler.

King and Queen
The King, in white tie, led the royal procession into the dining room alongside the President, followed by the Queen and the First Lady. Camilla wore a green lace gown by Fiona Clare with the girls of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Tiara, diamond earrings, an emerald and diamond necklace and the order of Germany sash.

The Princess Royal and her husband Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, along with the Duke of Norfolk, the Duke of Wellington, and other German and British politicians and dignitaries.

What were guests served?
Royal staff spent five days setting up the table with pieces from the Grand Service from the Royal Collection, a silver-gilt dinner service dating back to 1811 which includes dinner plates, tureens, dessert stands, and candelabra, influenced by Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Oriental styles.
Guests tucked into open hot smoked trout and langoustine tartlet with quail eggs and shellfish sauce and Windsor partridge supreme wrapped in puff pastry with confit cabbage and port sauce, followed by baked Alaska with blackberry, vanilla and raspberry ece cream and coffee and petit fours.
Wine included a Château La Fleur-Pétrus, Pomerol, 1995 –chosen in honour of the year the President and First Lady married, and guests were served a cherry brandy and chocolate cocktail, created by a royal mixologist to evoke the flavour of German dessert Black Forest Gateau.
Thursday's agenda
Good morning! You've joined us for the second day of the state visit.
The President and First Lady will privately visit St George's Chapel, Windsor, to lay flowers on Queen Elizabeth II's tomb.
Returning to Windsor Castle, the couple, together with the King and Queen, will join a reception in partnership with The Big Help Out showcasing the positive impact of volunteering on communities.
Afterwards, Their Majesties and the Presidential couple will briefly view the State Sleigh, which was designed by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria and was recorded in the monarch's diary in 1845. The King and Queen will then bid farewell.

King Charles' cultural visit that flew under the radar
Today, King Charles paid a surprise visit to the 2025 Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition, a platform celebrating rising conductors on the brink of an international career. When he was the Prince of Wales, the 77-year-old served as patron of the competition for many years.
At LSO St Luke’s in London, he watched aspiring conductors lead the London Symphony Orchestra in performances of Verdi’s Sicilian Vespers Overture, Brahms’s Second Symphony and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, then met with some of the young conductors.
A proud father-in-law to the Princess of Wales

Second banquet
Another day, another banquet! On December 4 the Guildhall in London hosted the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Budenbender.
Princess Anne was among the guests, and she was joined by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.

More guests announced for The Princess of Wales' carol concert
A few more notable guests have been announced for the Princess of Wales' carol concert, which will be taking place tomorrow, including footballer Michelle Agyemang and her parents.
English rugby players Jessica Breach, Helena Rowland, Rosie Galligan and Marlie Packer will all be in attendance, meanwhile Welsh players Kate Williams, Sisilia Tuipulotu, Abbie Fleming, Georgia Evans, Kayleigh Powell and Alex Callender will also be there.
Steven Frank, a Holocaust survivor who celebrated 90th Birthday this year and has met the Princess of Wales before, will appear with his family, as well as veterans Jack Mortimer and John Eskdale.
