Cate Blanchett injured live on stage after fight scene goes wrong

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett has suffered a head injury during a live performance of her current play, A Streetcar Named Desire, after being hit by a prop.

During a fight scene with co-star Joel Edgerton, Cate was accidentally struck by a radio as a  shocked audience looked on.

A true professional, the Aussie actress attempted to continue the scene with blood pouring from her wound, but, shortly afterwards was forced to leave the stage.

The Sydney-based production came to a halt and audiences were later told it had been cancelled.

"He was supposed to throw (the radio) out the window, but it sort of slipped and hit her in the head... she was so good, she just went straight on," one audience member said.

A theatre spokesperson later confirmed the actress is "absolutely fine", and would be well enough to perform the next day.
