Equalizer Edward Woodward breaks hip after tumble

Edward Woodward, who is best known for his secret agent role in Eighties hitman drama The Equalizer, is facing a hip replacement after falling down a flight of stairs in his West Country home.

Much like his former tough guy character, the 76-year-old actor went about his life as normal for several days after the fall, before realising his injury.

"He didn't complain and carried on but couldn't understand why he was in such pain," his spokesperson reveals.

"Eventually, he went to hospital and they told him he needs to have the hip replaced, which will happen in a few days."

Edward, who joined the cast of EastEnders as Tommy Clifford in March (pictured), has had to postpone his forthcoming play Love Letters in which he was to perform alongside his actress wife, Michele Dotrice.

The couple hope to stage the show once Edward has made a full recovery.
