Tom Cruise and girlfriend Katie Holmes have become engaged after the Mission Impossible star popped the question at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The news comes after a whirlwind romance in which the pair have made headlines all over the world with their very public displays of affection.
"Yes, I proposed to her," confirmed Tom on Friday. "It was early this morning at the Eiffel Tower, so I haven't slept at all."
The A-list couple's open infatuation with one another has provoked speculation their relationship is little more than a publicity stunt. In one incident, during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, the actor leaped into the air shouting "I'm in love, I'm in love". The 42-year-old has dismissed suggestions he and Katie are trying to boost their profiles as their latest movies hit cinema screens around the world, however.
"I have to laugh - it's just ridiculous," he said at the European premiere of War Of The Worlds. "Something magnificent has happened to me and something extraordinary, and I'm so happy I just can't restrain myself."
No date has been set for the wedding, but when the glamorous pair do make their vows it is sure to be the celebrity marriage of the year. It will be Tom's third trip down the aisle - he has previously been wed to actresses Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers - while Katie is tying the knot for the first time. |
