Clad in faded jeans and sneakers, with her long blonde hair on the loose, Athina Roussel was looking nothing like a billion-dollar heiress when she flew into the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre with her fiancé this week.
As the granddaughter of Aristotle Onassis, Athina is expected to one day control the late shipping tycoon's vast fortune.
But the press-shy 20-year-old is renowned for her lack of ostentation. So much so, that even the news of her engagement to Brazilian equestrian Alvaro Alfonso de Miranda Neto, aka Doda, earlier this year was accompanied by little fanfare. "She doesn't like fuss," explained a source.
While the date of the wedding – December 3 – has been set, little more information is available. "We just haven't worked out all the details of the wedding," says the 32-year-old groom-to-be.
It would be the first marriage for Athina and the second for her boyfriend of two years, who has a daughter by a previous marriage. The pair currently share a luxurious apartment in Sao Paulo.
Athina, who is Onassis' sole heir, has been embroiled in a legal dispute with her French father, Thierry Roussel, over her inheritance.
