Bathing caps haven't been in fashion since the Fifties but some designers are clearly keen to bring back the vintage look for next year's swimwear. The Miami catwalks were awash with retro themed creations which evoked the elegant glamour of Marilyn Monroe's heyday.
Models made a demure runway appearance in ladylike, skirted swimsuits. Frilly bikinis in holiday shades of red and blue and modestly-cut one-pieces were accessorised with old fashioned parasols for a romantic effect. Petal swim caps in pastel hues and scarlet lips completed the Fifties approach.
headgear also extended to the sailor's cap – another popular fashion theme of the era and reminiscent of golden-age films including South Pacific. Elsewhere colourful tropical prints continued that era's enthusiasm for all things Hawaiian.
