British actor Edward Woodward has died in hospital at the age of 79.
He had been ill for several months and had been suffering from various illnesses including pneumonia, said his agent Janet Glass.
"I knew him a very long time and he was a superb human being," she told Reuters. "That integrity shone through in the roles he played."
Edward was perhaps best known for starring in 1973 horror film The Wicker Man and Eighties US TV series The Equaliser.
He is survived by his actress wife Michele Dotrice, and four children.
