When it comes to proposing, many people opt for a traditional romantic setting, getting down on one knee during a city break or while out for a loved-up dinner. But Shane Birkinbine wanted to pop the question to girlfriend Pam Edwards in a way that was special to them both.
The couple met through online dating two years ago, according to BuzzFeed News, and share a mutual love of video games. So Shane decided to customise Super Mario Brothers – giving Pam a huge shock when she took a break from chores to play.

Shane Birkinbine thought of the best way to propose to Pam Edwards
Shane had changed the game's question boxes to read: 'Pam, will you marry me?' And, when she looked over to him, he man was down on one knee holding a question box opened to reveal a ring.
So not only had Shane really thought about how to pop the question, he also managed to edit a video game's coding to display the all-important message. Romantic AND smart!
The video has since gone viral
Of course Pam said yes, and later revealed that the proposal came as a "total surprise". She explained: "I was really happy. I was just really excited because I love him so much and he loves me, obviously."
Luckily Shane filmed the whole thing and it's since gone viral, clocking up more than a million views on YouTube – and it's easy to see why the internet has gone crazy for it!
And now Shane and Pam are excitedly planning their wedding, to take place in the autumn, and are, unsurprisingly, going to add some Super Mario elements to their big day.
We can't wait to see what they've got in store!
