A 31-year-old man has taken in his 89-year-old neighbour Norma Cook to take care of her during her struggle with leukemia.
Chris Salvatore, who has lived next door to Norma for five years, invited her to move in with him after she was told she needed around-the-clock care and wouldn't be able to move back to her own apartment. Chatting to Today about his new housemate, Chris said: "She couldn't be happier that I asked. I was over there visiting most days anyway. She called me the grandson she never had, I just couldn't do that [place Norma in a nursing home] to someone who is like my own grandmother. Moving her in… It feels as though it was meant to be all along. It's really fulfilling to be there for her."
The pair first connected over their mutual love of champagne and saw each other most days, and according to Chris little has changed since moving in together. He said: "We always watch the news. We mostly talk and drink Champagne and eat peanuts." Norma also chatted about their relationship, praising her friend. "If he can't make it as an actor, he can make it as a chef," she joked. Chris previously kept his Instagram followers up-to-date with their adorable friendship by posting snaps using the hashtag, "#myneighbournorma."
After Norma moved in, he happily gave an update on their relationship, writing: "I hope this little update will bring some sunshine to your rainy day here in La. We are reaching the 2 month mark since my neighbour Norma has come home from the hospital and I am so happy to share that she is continuing to prove the doctors and nurses wrong by continuing to THRIVE…I just wanted to let you all know Norma loves reading your comments and I seriously think all the support and love is keeping her healthy. Now who wants to come to dinner? #myneighbournorma... I mean #myroomatenorma."
